Where The Wild Things Are

We spend most of October focusing on this story since it’s a core lit book for our grade level. We have a family project – they are asked to make a ‘wild thing’ at home with their families. They bring it in and we decorate our hallway with them. We also focus on descriptive words in our writing – this book lends itself to those kinds of words. We talk about their sharp claws, long hair, yellow teeth, etc. We make a wild thing in class with construction paper too. We culminate it all with a WILD RUMPUS. We have centers that revolve around the book.
** I had a center where the parent helper re read the book and they had to write about their favorite part.
** Another center they had to sequence the book with sequence cards that they colored.
** In another center they decorated the crowns they made with jewels and took pictures.
** They also played Wild Thing games
** Lastly we had a center where they got to fill a glove with popcorn and put candy corn for the fingernails.
It was a fun day…pictures to come….
