Michelle Kwan

Michelle Kwan: Hear of a Champion by Michelle Kwan

Summary:  In this autobiography, champion figure skater Michelle Kwan describes how she made the decision to begin competing as a Senior skater at the age of 12.  She explains the obstacles she encountered and the challenges she overcame as she prepared herself to compete with the best skaters in the world.

Genre:  Autobiography

An autobiography is the story of someone's life written by that person.

Story Skill: Fact and Opinion

A statement is a fact if you can answer these two questions: "Is it true?" and "Can it be proved?".  An opinion statement can be well thought out, but can't be proven to be true.  To determine if the statement is an opinion consider whether the statement tells a thought or feeling and whether the statement is true all the time.  Look for opinion signal words such as: think, perhaps, believe, suggest, probably, usually, most, good, beautiful, best, worst, most, bad, etc.  Remember, agreeing with a statement does not make it true.  If I say that chocolate ice cream is the best flavor, and you agree, that does not make it a fact.  Someone else might not agree.
