Reading Class 4th Grade » A Very Important Day

A Very Important Day

A Very Important Day by Maggie Rugg Herold

Summary: The story follows the day of several immigrant families who are becoming citizens of the United States.

Review the story below:

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Realistic fiction is a fictional story in which the setting, plot, dialogue, and characters seem real.

Story Skill: Setting

The setting is where and when a story takes place.  The setting includes time, day or dates, month, year, season, historical references, geographical names, landscape details, and weather elements.  Settings can be real or imaginary and should make sense to the plot.  Characters interact with the setting to show and tell a story.  A characters reaction to an environment gives clues to what a character is feeling or how they will react in certain circumstances.

Setting

To listen to stories and practice identifying settings.

Practice finding the time and place of a setting.

Match the objects that would be in the same setting.
