Welcome to our Mathematics section.  This year we are beginning an exciting new math program based on student-centered mathematics.  Math Makes Sense! is the basis of the student focused program.  In this approach students are trusted to solve problems and work together using their ideas to do so.  They will be provided with tasks that will engage them in the mathematics they are expected to learn.  The reasoning for this approach is to allow students to interact with and make their own connections using their own ideas and strategies with teacher guidance.

An important function of the program is cooperative learning or teamwork.  Students will need to follow the cooperative learning standards below to be successful:

Math facts practice will also be done differently this year.  A part of the day is set aside for practice.  Any facts that students do not get correct will have a triangular facts card made to use for practice each night at home.  Students will make these cards themselves.
