Welcome to Math! I look forward to having you in my class. This course is designed to develop an understanding of the basic structure of Algebra. Emphasis will be placed on problem-solving and abstract reasoning using symbolic language. Mathematics is the science of patterns and relationships. It is the language and logic of our technological world. Mathematical power is the ability to explore, to conjecture, to reason logically and to use a variety of mathematical methods effectively to solve problems. The ultimate goal of mathematics education is for all students to develop mathematical power to participate fully as a citizen and worker in our contemporary world. After taking this class a mathematically powerful individual should be able to: · reason mathematically; · communicate mathematically; · problem solve using mathematics; and, · make connections within mathematics and between mathematics and other fields. ATTENDANCE v The school-wide attendance policy will be in effect. v The school’s tardy policy will also be enforced. v When you miss, you miss the opportunity to learn.
