ABC SMART BOX
READ:
Read all the books. Some of them are AR books, and you can take a test of them. Some of them are just for you to read and enjoy.
WRITE:
-write a letter to the author of your favorite ABC book and tell him or her which letter you liked best and why
-make up a code (example: 1 = a, 2 = b, 3 = c). Write a note to your partner using the code.
ACTIVITY:
-choose 10 items, objects, sports, animals, etc. to put in ABC order
-make a new book cover for one of the ABC books
-use the alphabetic letters and clay to make your name and other words
-choose an overhead worksheet to complete
CHALLENGE:
-make an ABC book of favorite objects, animals, etc.

FIRE SAFETY SMART BOX
READ:

-write about a fire where you were a hero and saved someone’s life
-write a poem about fire on the worksheet
-make up a list of questions you would like to ask a firefighter
-write about a dog who woke up a family whose house was on fire
ACTIVITY:
-draw a diagram of your home and show all the exits you can use in case of a fire
-create an animal for a fire prevention poster or fire safety poster then make the poster to put in the hall

-write a poem Falling Leaves (all words must end in –ing)

ACTIVITY:
-choose a worksheet and complete
-bring leaves from home
-do leaf rubbings (bring leaves from home and rub crayon on top of leaf on white paper)
-do leaf explosions (place leaf on white paper, hold down and use yellow paint to rub off the edge onto paper). You’ll have the image of a leaf with the inside clear and write rhyming words on the leaves.
