Welcome »
Welcome, Parents, to a Day in the Life of Your Fourth Grader!
8:30am - 9:00am - As soon as your child enters the classroom they encounter a friendly message on our "Morning Message" board. This message includes the "Math Message" of the morning, along with any further instructions for students to follow. As students are working on their "Math Message", they wait for their breakfast to arrive.
9:00am - 9:25am - Morning Meeting. During morning meeting, students gather in a circle in the front of the room. The first activity your child takes part in is our "special greeting". Our greetings range from learning different languages to complimenting the student sitting next to them. During morning meeting, we go over our schedule for the day and any changes students should be aware of. Next, 2 students have the opportunity to share. Lastly, we end our morning greeting with a community activity.
9:30am-10:45am - Mathematics. Our math block always starts with one student reading our "Math Message" from the Morning Message board. Then, students have the opportunity to share their answers to the math message. After the math message, students are introduced to the "Lesson Objective". Here, they find out what they will be able to do after the lesson has been completed. For the next 20 minutes, direct instruction will follow. After direct instruction, students will take part in one of our "Everyday Mathematics" games. Lastly, students take part in independent practice, to work on the specific skill they have just been taught.
10:45am - 11:00am - Break/Snack. During this time, students are allowed to use the lavatories & eat their snack while visiting with a friend.
11:00am-11:25am - Writing! At this time, students are introduced to our writing project of the month! Students are expected to brainstorm and then are given graphic organizers to appropriately organize their writing. Then let the writing process begin!
11:25am- 11:50am- Skill Lesson Practice. During this time, we are using our Treasure's reading curriculum guide to learn new skills such as : visualizing, cause and effect, setting, characters, etc. These skill lessons are taught on Monday and are integrated into our book club books.
