HOMEWORK GUIDELINES We have begun homework in 5th grade. The general rule of thumb is that students should not have more than 50 minutes of homework when they get home. They will however, often have it in more than one subject. We have time every afternoon to begin, and often complete, homework in the classroom. Most students will find that they can complete most of their homework at that time. PLEASE...if your child is consistently spending more than 50 minutes of homework at home, contact me so that we can address it sooner rather than later. 4th grade will almost always have Math homework. Most Science homework should have been completed during Science class. If your child is consistently coming home with Science homework, they are most likely not doing it during the alloted time in class. If your child spends more than 30 "good" minutes on Math homework, please have them stop working and contact me at the email address below. 5th Grade Class Rules (these should look familiar and will never change) 1. Raise your hand to speak. 2. Keep your hands to yourself. 3. Follow directions. 4. Walk in school. 5. Be quiet in the hallway. I have received emails from many of you giving me your email as a contact point. I appreciate that, but please be patient if I do not respond immediately to each one! Email is a great form of communication, and your children are amazed when they know that I have emailed you during the day! I find for 5th graders it can be a great incentive to make good choices during their school day! Please feel free to contact me at quaym@smswaterford.org with any questions or concerns.
