Ferguson Team 8-B

Our team would like to thank Mr. Andy Smith, manager of South Main Auto, for speaking with us this morning about his career.  Mr. Smith did a great job of explaining to students how learning now has an impact on one's future career. 

Our team would like to thank Dr. Bernice Hausman, English professor at Virginia Tech, for speaking to our classes about the genocide in Rwanda and sharing her pictures from her trip there.  Dr. Hausman also shared information about her career with advisory classes.

Our team would like to thank Mr. Mike Arrington, head chef at the Grove, for coming in and talking with our team about his career duties.  Mr. Arrington pointed out many ways in which primary education are important in his daily work.  Please ask your child about his presentation.

Our team would like to thank Ms. Edwina Lamm for coming in and speaking to us today about her career in law.  Ms. Lamm works for Wall and Associates.  Please ask your child about the information she shared especially about taxes.  It is that time of the year again!

Our team would like to thank Ms. Laura Marks for taking time to come in on Friday 1/11/08 to speak with us about her work in animal sciences at VT. 

Our team would like to thank Dr. Shannon Jarrott (Mr. Teller's better half) for talking about her work in the field of gerontology and intergenerational programs.

Our team would like to thank Mr. Joe Trice for presenting to us this morning (12/19/07).  Mr. Trice works for Readers Digest and specializes in advertising.  His enthusiasm made a great start for our last day before winter break.  Please ask your student about the presentation.

Our team would like to thank Ms. Donna Brown for presenting information about her career as a cosmotologist this morning (12/14/07).  Mrs. Brown gave information about her education in cosmotology and discussed the science involved in her work.  Please ask your child about the presentation.

Attention:  It is never too late!  We still need volunteers to do a presentation of their career for our students.  Please contact Hollie Ferguson at hferguson@mcps.org if interested. 

Our team would like to thank Mrs. Lisa Beck for coming and talking to us this morning about her career as a physician assistant.  She stressed the importance of math and science and how they are used in her work.  She also talked about what she does at work and the education required.  Please ask your child about her presentation.

Our team would like to thank Mr. Tom Alderson for coming and talking with us this morning about the field of engineering.  He brought circuit boards to share when talking about his career of electrical engineering.  Please ask students about the presentation.

Our team would like to thank Mr. John McGee for coming and presenting information to us this morning (10/25/07) about his work at VT with geospatial tools.  Please ask students about the power point presentatian and discussion.  Specifically, ask them about the difference in the New River Valley Mall area years ago as compared to now.

Our team would like to thank Mrs. Debra Seager for coming and talking with us this morning (10/16/07) about her work as an engineer at Corning.  As part of her presentation Mrs. Seager showed how she uses the scientific method to solve problems with the process that she is involved with at Corning.  Please ask students about what they learned.

Our team would like to thank Mrs. Kate Carroll for talking with us this morning (10/10/07) about her career in fashion design.  She shared with us very interesting information on how clothes are made.  Plese ask students about the presentation.

Our team would like to thank Mr. Bruce Herman for talking with us this morning (10/02/07)about his career as a national sports writer.  A big thank you for the baseball cards.  Please ask students about the presentation.

Our team would like to thank Mrs. Marti Graham for coming in and speaking with us this morning (9/27/07) about her career in the computer world.  Please ask students what information was presented.
