 How to access our online catalog:
You can access our online access catalog at school or at home by going to the media center website and clicking on “Destiny”.

How to request interlibrary loan materials within our district:

1) From the library home page click on the link to “Destiny”

2) Click on the “Catalog” then “Library Search” tab.

3) Type in the keyword, title, author, subject, or series that you are looking for in the “Find” box.

4) On the “Look in” line pull down the screen and choose the location(s) you want to search (Bay District Schools, All Elementary Schools, etc.).

5) Hit enter and the results of your search will appear.

6) Find the item that matches best what you are looking for.

7) To the right of the title it will say “No local copies”. This means that we have no copies at Breakfast Point. Underneath this click on the link that says something like “2 of 2 available off-site”. This will tell you where the copies are located in our district.

8) Once you find a copy that you want you can send an email to library staff and they will put in for your interlibrary loan. As a staff member you can either select for pick-up or delivery in the courier.

9) The book should arrive within a few days and will be put in your box.

How to request interlibrary loan materials within our state:

1) From the library home page click on the link to “SUNLINK”.

2) Click on the link “Teachers” at the top.

3) Click on the box to the right “Search SUNLINK”

4) Click on the region you wish to search or choose to search “Entire State” Note that it can take a few days or even weeks in some cases to receive materials. Search our closest regions first.

5) When searching by region you will have the option to search individual counties or the entire region.

6) After determining where to search a screen will appear for you to enter your search criteria and then click “Find It”.

7) The results and location of the materials will appear.

8) The librarian will have to submit your interlibrary loan request. You will need to print off the full record page of the item you selected or send an email to library staff that includes the title, author, and location of the material you want.

9) Your request will then be made to the other school or library and depending on their location your materials should arrive within a few days and will be put in your box.

Some suggestions of lessons on which we might collaborate:

 You are studying “ocean life”. The library staff can create a list of books and other materials for you to use in your instruction.

 You have a student who cannot read the textbook. We can help you find supplemental materials for students who can’t read or understand textbooks.

 You want to work on a research project on Mexico. We can collaboratively plan a unit that meets your objectives.

 You want your students to know how to effectively find information in our subscription databases. Collaboratively we can plan lessons that integrate your particular unit objectives with information literacy standards.

 You want to find a book, class set, or other multimedia resource that is not available at our school. The library staff can help you find one.

 Work together to create a community where reading is viewed as “cool”.

What Can Teachers Do When They Bring Their Students Into the Library?

Help the library staff with reading interviews with students to help them find a book that meets their individual reading and interest needs as well as to help tie the book selections into the class curriculum.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

Provide guidance and knowledge to library staff on particular details relating to the students and the curriculum currently being studied.

Gather and check out materials that support what you are working on this week or next in the classroom.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

Browse the professional library section of the media center.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

If collaboration was done for the particular lesson, the teacher and the media specialist should take turns delivering instruction and provide additional support as needed.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

Please note that teachers are expected to stay with their students during their library times unless prior arrangements with library staff have been made.  Library time should be viewed as a collaborative learning experience and an extension of the regular classroom.

How to recommend an item for library purchase:

1) Send an email to the librarian with the title and author along with a brief reason or curriculum tie in.

2) When searching for books in Destiny, after clicking on the title you will have the option to “Add to Wish List”.

 Library books and other requests will be purchased when funds are available.

Information about the library website:

I would like to see the website being used for accessing:

· Our district’s print and multimedia collection from home (Destiny).

· Links to major research projects that the school is undertaking.

· Electronic databases that the district subscribes to that provide high-quality information. These databases are far superior to the chaos and unorganized information on the Internet.

· Tutorials and tips for students and professional development for faculty.

· Links to other libraries and information sources.

The goal of the library website is for it to be an interactive resource and essentially a digital library available 24 hours a day. There is much work yet to be done so anytime you come across resources that are applicable to your students or you want to provide links please let me know so that I can update the website
